European Neutron Science Association

The European Neutron Science Association (ENSA) represents the scientific community in Europe that uses neutron sources to explore the structure and dynamics of materials. It brings together national user groups to coordinate strategy, strengthen collaboration, and advocate for world‑class neutron research. ENSA works to ensure efficient use of existing facilities while supporting long‑term planning for future neutron sources. The association promotes training, innovation, and opportunities for young scientists across a broad range of disciplines. Through its initiatives and partnerships, ENSA helps secure a vibrant and sustainable future for neutron science in Europe. It may be noted that ENSA changed its name from the European Neutron Scattering Association in May 2026.

At the ENSA meeting held on November 15th 2023 at PSI in Switzerland, Dr. Astrid Schneidewind was elected chair of ENSA. Dr Schneidewind is instrument scientist of PANDA, a cold three axis spectrometer located at MLZ and operated by FZ Jülich. She takes over the role of ENSA chair after Prof Henrik Rønnow.

The ENSA board would like to thank Henrik for his invaluable contribution as chair to ENSA activities and stimulating the collaboration with the League of Advanced European Neutron Sources (LENS) and with the European Synchrotron User Organization (ESUO).

We are grateful to Henrik for all his work and look forward to his further contributions as European neutron scattering community.
