European Neutron Scattering Association

The European Neutron Scattering Association (ENSA) represents the scientific community in Europe that uses neutron sources to explore the structure and dynamics of materials. It brings together national user groups to coordinate strategy, strengthen collaboration, and advocate for world‑class neutron research. ENSA works to ensure efficient use of existing facilities while supporting long‑term planning for future neutron sources. The association promotes training, innovation, and opportunities for young scientists across a broad range of disciplines. Through its initiatives and partnerships, ENSA helps secure a vibrant and sustainable future for neutron science in Europe.

Closure of Orphee reactor LLB

Posted on November 1, 2019 by ViceChair ViceChair

The planned closure of the Orphee reactor at Laboratoire Leon Brillouin in Saclay, Paris since a few days means the loss of a great piece of research infrastructure in neutron scattering science. The expertise of the staff involved is of course maintained and applied but training future neutron scientists cannot be done anymore at this…

The 2019 Walter Hälg Prize Winner: Kell Mortensen

Posted on June 26, 2019 by ViceChair ViceChair

Kell has been a world leader in the application of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) to soft matter systems, in particular, polymers for three decades. He has contributed numerous fundamental advances to our understanding of the thermodynamics and dynamics of soft materials along with developing innovative in-situ techniques. Scientifically his work on Polymer I Block copolymer…

Hello Neutron Scatterers!

Posted on April 10, 2019 by ViceChair ViceChair

Welcome to the new website of the European Neutron Scattering Association (ENSA). We, ENSA, represent the scientists that use large-scale research infrastructures that operate a neutron source, like research reactors and accelerator-based spallation sources. Half of the worlds mass actually consists of neutrons. Half of you consists of neutrons. Neutrons bind together the protons in…
